PROJECT COMPLETION

2015

The Main Process Train design-build project in Blue Plains AWTP consisted of the rehabilitation of four solids blending tanks, installation of 12 new strain screens in a new screenings building, a pre-dewatering building housing 10 pre-dewatering centrifuges, four trains of Cambi’s thermal hydrolysis treatment (THP), a digester building including pumping and cooling heat exchangers, and the construction of four 3.8 million-gallon digesters and associated odor control equipment.

DMY worked on this project to provide construction materials testing and special inspection services, including field and laboratory testing for soil and aggregate, concrete and grout sampling and testing, and inspection of the installation of 477 auger-cast-piles and 144 drilled piers. Pile load tests were also observed. In addition, DMY tested slurry for the drilled shafts and grout for the auger cast piles using the flow cone test method. Structural steel inspection and testing were included in the scope, as well.

DMY also performed the inspection of deep excavation, including soldier piles and tiebacks for the support of excavation. DMY implemented its web-based electronic management and report delivery system, DMY Manager®, for the first time and was able to smoothly handle the project needs and effectively control the quality of our deliverables.

Thanks to the quality services that the client received on this project, DMY was awarded the second phase of the project with high remarks.
